Review: Freedun - M.I.A. featuring Zayn
It won’t be much longer now until M.I.A releases her album AIM, which is her first studio album since 2013. “Freedun” is set to be the fifth single off the album. M.I.A has been teasing fans with singles since August 2015 when she released “Swords”. You can preorder M.I.A – AIM on iTunes and the release date for the album is September 9, 2016.
M.I.A released her first studio album in March of 2005 and saw success with songs like “Paper Plane”. M.I.A has also been featured on tracks like “The New International Sound pt. II”.
Zayn released Mind of Mine in March 2016 and the album saw huge success with singles like “Pillowtalk” and “It’s You”. Zayn also has a song, “wHo” on The Ghostbusters soundtrack and, alongside Snakehips, recently released a track called “Cruel” that he was featured on.
The two came together for “Freedun” and the song has an electronic beat that does that does not take away from the vocals. M.I.A has a beautiful voice that shines in this song and Zayn’s vocals are very interesting. His voice has an electronic feel to it that goes well with the backbeat of the song and towards the ending, the vocals of the song echo themselves. It is amazing. The end of the song also feels sort of tribal. M.I.A and Zayn’s voice mix well together and the song has beautiful lyrics.
“All the stars are still shining
But you’re the only one I see
I can feel when your heart beats, yeah
But you can’t keep your eyes off me”
