New temple presidents and matrons called to serve in Peru, Nigeria, Alabama and California
The following five new temple presidents and matrons have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin their service in November, with the exception of the Antelos, who will begin when the temple is dedicated.
Ramiro Antelo Saenz, 60, Las Misiones Ward, Santa Cruz Bolivia Abundancia Stake, called as president of the Arequipa Peru Temple. President Antelo’s wife, Elvira Avalos Sumoya de Antelo, will serve as temple matron. He is a high councilor and a former Bolivia La Paz Mission president , stake president and bishop. An attorney, he was born in Santa Cruz, Andres Ibañez, Bolivia, to Franco Emilio Antelo and Solano Carmen Saenz.
Sister Antelo is a ward Relief Society presidency counselor and a former mission president companion, stake Young Women and Primary president, and ward Relief Society and Young Women president. She was born in Vallegrande, Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to Juan Avalos Herrera and Felipa Sumoya Menacho.
David William Eka, 74, Udo Umana Ward, Uyo Nigeria Stake, called as president of the Aba Nigeria Temple, succeeding President John E. Kosin. President Eka’s wife, Ekaete David Akpan Eka, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Christiana C. Kosin. He is a former Area Seventy, Nigeria Lagos Mission president, stake president, district president and branch president. Self-employed business owner, he was born in Etinan, Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria, to William Udo and Lucy William Eka.
Sister Eka is a temple ordinance worker and a former mission president companion, district and ward Relief Society president, and ward Relief Society presidency counselor. She was born in Etinan, Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria, to Denis Akpan and Esther Denis Ekong.
Hector Antonio Miranda Nieto, 73, La Molina Vieja Ward, Lima Peru Santa Patricia Stake, called as president of the Lima Peru Temple, succeeding President Richard W. Gillespie. President Miranda’s wife, Azucena Georgina García Acasiete de Miranda, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Ann H. Gillespie. He is an elders quorum president and volunteer assistant temple recorder, and a former Lima Peru Temple presidency counselor, bishop and stake clerk. Retired administrator, he was born in Nazca, Ica, Peru, to Pedro Antonio Miranda Rios and Leonila Vda. de Miranda Nieto.
Sister Miranda is a temple ordinance worker and a former assistant to the matron of the Lima Peru Temple, ward Relief Society and Primary president. She was born in Ica, Ica, Peru, to Mauro García Pinto and María Encarnacíon Acasiete Hernández.
Gary Wayne Pettus, 69, Florence Ward, Tupelo Mississippi Stake, called as president of the Birmingham Alabama Temple, succeeding President Thomas E. Mayfield. President Pettus’ wife, Cheryl Denise Rooks Pettus, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Barbara A. Mayfield. He is a self-reliance specialist and a former stake president, bishop, high councilor and senior missionary couple. Owner of Pettus Mechanical Services, he was born in Florence, Alabama, to Wiley Edward Pettus and Reba Gladys Killen.
Sister Pettus is a ward Relief Society presidency counselor and a former stake Primary presidency counselor, ward Relief Society and Young Women president, and senior missionary couple. She was born in Marianna, Florida, to Lloyd Callis Rooks and Eunice Lavelle Wester Rooks Bishop.
Thomas Mark Weed, 73, Yosemite Ward, Merced California Stake, called as president of the Fresno California Temple, succeeding President David H. Crane. President Weed’s wife, Janet Lynn Callister Weed, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Jeanette L. Crane. He is a senior missionary in the Massachusetts Boston Mission and a former stake president, bishop, patriarch and high councilor. An ophthalmologist, he was born in Seattle, Washington, to Mark Barg and Josephine Chloe Weed.
Sister Weed is a senior missionary in the Massachusetts Boston Mission and a former stake and ward Relief Society presidency counselor, ward Relief Society and Young Women president, and temple ordinance worker. She was born in Merced, California, to Eldon Jones Callister and Beth Hutchings.
